Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival (FICX) opens the call to present feature films and short films in the 62nd edition, which will be celebrated between the 15th and 23rd of November, 2024. This prestigious event is dedicated to bringing together a wide selection of quality auteur cinema from around the world, highlighting innovative proposals and emerging filmmakers, with a particular emphasis on European and Latin American cinema.
The Official Section of the 62FICX is made up of:
- Albar International Competition: Presents a selection of independent and author films of at least 45 minutes in length, produced after January 1, 2023.
- Retueyos International Competition: Singular and avant-garde cinematographic works, with special attention to filmmakers with less than four feature films. Films of no less than 45 minutes in length, produced after January 1, 2023.
- International Short Film Competition: Short films of no more than 30 minutes, produced after January 1, 2023.
In addition to the Official Section, the 62nd FICX will be complemented with other sections, such as:
Tierres en Trance: Cross-cutting competition made up of a selection of feature films of Latin American (co)production that have not been publicly exhibited in Spanish territory prior to their screening at the 62nd edition of the FICX.
Enfants Terribles: Competitive section aimed at children and young people.
Esbilla: Selection of films showcasing works from the international film industry scene that stand out for their quality and/or audacity, in addition to premieres of special formal or thematic value.
FICX | Laboral Cinemateca: Programming co-produced by Laboral Cinemateca, made up of a classic and/or contemporary audiovisual selection accompanied
of special presentations and/or live music. This section may be held during the Festival dates or as part of the annual programming of FICXPlus and Laboral Cinemateca.
Asturies Curtiumetraxes: Selection of short films made in Asturias or by Asturian filmmakers. The specific regulations of this section will be available on the Festival’s official website.
Spotlights, Retrospectives, Cycles and Special Screenings: The Spotlights and Retrospectives are conceived to discover/reinforce the work of filmmakers on the national and international scene. For their part, Seasons will be defined by a thematic or geographical criterion. Finally, the Special Screenings will host the premiere in Spain of of the season’s outstanding titles and/or screenings accompanied by special guests.
Crossroads – SSIFF / FICX: Films jointly selected by the San Sebastián International Film Festival and FICX.
Mutant Generation:A selection of films of all times in which classic film genres are approached from a personal and/or heterodox artistic perspective.
The call is open for feature films of no less than 45 minutes in length and short films, of a maximum of 30 minutes in length, produced after January 1, 2023, that want to be registered in the competitive and non-competitive sections of the FICX, except for the Asturian competition that will be the subject of a specific call.
Registration dates to participate are currently open, with deadlines until:
- Enfantes Terribles Section: Until August 23, 2024.
- Rest of the feature film sections: Until September 8, 2024.
- Short films (except Asturias Curtiumetraxes, whose deadlines and registration will be published on the official website): Regular registration until September 8, 2024, and extended period until September 15, 2024.
